Şehzade Mehmed Orhan Efendi (also known as Mehmed Orhan Osmanoğlu) was a prince from the Ottoman family. He was born on October 12, 1909, and passed away on March 12, 1994. From 1983 to 1994, he was the 42nd leader of the Ottoman family. He also worked as an advisor for King Zog I of Albania. He became the head of the Ottoman family on December 9, 1983, after Şehzade Ali Vasib passed away.
Early Life
Mehmed Orhan was born in Üsküdar on October 12, 1909. His aunt, Ayşe Sultan, said he was born in Naime Sultan's palace. His father was Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkadir. His mother was Mihriban Hanım, who was from the Abkhazian people.
When his parents divorced in 1913, Mehmed Orhan and his mother went to live with his uncle. He later attended Galatasaray High School and Robert College.
Life in Exile
In March 1924, the Ottoman royal family had to leave their home country. Mehmed Orhan first moved to Budapest, Hungary. He then lived with his uncle in Beirut, Lebanon. After that, he stayed with his aunt Naime Sultan in Nice, France.
Later, he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lived for two and a half years. Mehmed Orhan worked many different jobs during his exile. He was a shipbuilder and sold pictures at an art gallery in São Paulo, Brazil. He also worked as a taxi driver in Beirut and Damascus. For a time, he was a cemetery attendant in the United States. He also served as an advisor to King Zog I of Albania.
From 1983, after Ali Vâsib died, Mehmed Orhan became the head of the imperial family. He led the family from his home in Nice, France. In a 1990 interview with Life magazine, he shared his thoughts on his family's history. He said that being Ottoman meant knowing how to adapt to changes over time.
Family Life
Mehmed Orhan had three wives during his life. His first wife was Nafia Hanım. They got married in 1932. She was the mother of his daughter, Fatma Necla, who was born in 1933. They later divorced in 1933.
His second wife was Margareth Fournier, a French woman. They married in Paris in 1940. They had a son named Mehmed Selim, born in 1943. They divorced in 1945.
His third wife was Françeska Franketti, an Italian baroness. They were married for seven years. Together, they had a daughter named Ayten, who was born in the 1940s.
Later Years and Death
Mehmed Orhan passed away on March 12, 1994, in Nice, France. He was eighty-four years old. He was buried two days later, on March 14, at the East Side Cemetery in Nice.
In 2010, his remains were moved to a shared burial place in the same cemetery. This happened because the payments for his grave could not be kept up by the family.

Mehmed Orhan had one son and two daughters:
- Fatma Necla Sultan Germann (born September 14, 1933, in Cairo – died 2010 in Zürich) - She was his daughter with Nafia Hanim. She married and had two sons:

- Sultanzade Osman Cem Germann (born 1963)
- Şehzade Mehmed Selim Osmanoğlu (born October 3, 1943, in Paris) - He was his son with Margareth Fournier. He married and had one daughter:
- Claris Sultan Osmanoğlu (born 1971)
- Ayten Sultan Osmanoğlu (born in the 1940s) - She was his daughter with Françeska Franketti.
