The Town of Menasha was a community in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. It was located west of the Fox River. This area was right across from the city of Menasha, Wisconsin.

In 2010, about 18,498 people lived there. This made it the second largest town in Wisconsin at that time. Part of the community called Waverly Beach was also in the town.

In 2016, a big change happened. People living west of Little Lake Butte des Morts voted to create a new village. This new village was named Fox Crossing. On September 22, 2016, the rest of the Town of Menasha joined Fox Crossing. This meant the Town of Menasha no longer existed.

History of Menasha Town

The Town of Menasha was officially started on April 3, 1855. It was formed using land that used to be part of the nearby town of Neenah.

Becoming a Village: Fox Crossing

People started talking about making the Town of Menasha into a village as early as 1979. They even suggested the name Bridgeview. In 2002, residents voted on this idea, but it did not pass.

In December 2014, a new effort began. People wanted to make the western part of the town into the Village of Fox Crossing. They needed 50 signatures to start the process. By March 2015, they had collected over 200 signatures. Town leaders thought it would cost a lot of money to make this change.

The plan was to first make the area west of Little Lake Butte des Morts into Fox Crossing. This part had about 10,600 residents. After that, the goal was to add the remaining 7,900 residents from the east side.

On April 20, 2016, Fox Crossing officially became a village. This reduced the size of the Town of Menasha by about half. The next step was to combine the rest of the Town of Menasha with the new village.

On August 17, 2016, an agreement was made. The Village of Fox Crossing and the remaining Town of Menasha decided to join together. No residents objected to this plan. So, on September 22, 2016, the Town of Menasha officially ended. Its remaining parts became part of Fox Crossing.

Geography of the Former Town

The Town of Menasha was in the northeast part of Winnebago County. It partly surrounded the city of Menasha. It was located at the northern end of Lake Winnebago. The Fox River flows out of this lake. This river went through the middle of the town as Little Lake Butte des Morts.

To the south, the town bordered the city of Neenah. The town of Clayton was to the west. To the north and east was Outagamie County. The city of Appleton was to the northeast. The towns of Grand Chute and Greenville were to the north.

The total area of the town was about 36.0 square kilometers (13.9 square miles). Of this, 31.5 square kilometers (12.2 square miles) was land. The remaining 4.5 square kilometers (1.7 square miles) was water.

Population and People

In 2000, there were 15,858 people living in the town. These people lived in 6,298 households. Most of the people, about 95.44%, were White. Other groups included African American, Native American, and Asian residents. About 3.11% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.

The population was spread out by age. About 24.2% of residents were under 18 years old. About 11.0% were 65 years or older. The average age in the town was 37 years old.
