History of Grand Chute
The Town of Grand Chute was created on April 3, 1849. At that time, it was part of Brown County, Wisconsin. It was separated from the Town of Kaukaulan, which is now Kaukauna.
When it was first formed, Grand Chute was much larger than it is today. It included areas that are now the towns of Dale, Hortonia, Greenville, Ellington, and the current Grand Chute. By 1850, many new settlers arrived. Because of this, Hortonia (which included Dale), Greenville, and Ellington became their own separate towns.
In February 1851, Outagamie County was officially set up. On April 1, 1851, its government began. At this time, Grand Chute became the main place for county government business.
