Mendicant Ridge is a very long mountain ridge, about 12 miles (19 km) in length. It is located in the Gunnison National Forest in Gunnison County, Colorado, United States. This impressive ridge stands on the western edge of the West Elk Mountains, which are part of the larger Rocky Mountains in North America.
About Mendicant Ridge
Mendicant Ridge is a huge natural feature that forms the eastern skyline of the valley next to it. It rises about 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) above Crawford State Park. This makes it a very noticeable and tall landmark in the area.
Where is Mendicant Ridge?
The ridge is found about 9 miles (14 km) east-southeast of a town called Crawford, Colorado. It is entirely within the Gunnison National Forest, a protected area known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities.
The Peaks of Mendicant Ridge
Mendicant Ridge is not just one single peak. It is a long ridge that has four different high points, or summits. These summits stretch out roughly from the southwest to the northeast.
- The first summit on the southwest is called Castle Rock. It reaches an elevation of 11,205 feet (3,415 meters).
- Next along the ridge is Mendicant Ridge South summit, which is 11,425 feet (3,482 meters) high.
- After that, there is a central summit that is even higher, at 11,603 feet (3,537 meters).
- Finally, the highest point is called Mendicant Ridge High Point. It is located at the northeast end of the ridge and stands at an elevation of 11,841 feet (3,609 meters).
These different summits make Mendicant Ridge a complex and interesting mountain formation.
