Mewelde Jaem Cadere Moore (born July 24, 1982) is a former American football player. He was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). The Minnesota Vikings chose him in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. Moore also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He won a Super Bowl ring with them in Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals. Before the NFL, he played college football for the Tulane Green Wave. He was a great player at Belaire High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

College Football Career
Mewelde Moore had an amazing college football career. He is one of only two players in NCAA history to rush for over 4,000 yards and gain over 2,000 yards receiving. The other player was Darrin Nelson, who also played for the Vikings. Moore was known for his unique running style and how he used his arm to push defenders away.
He ranks 11th in Division I history for "all-purpose yards" with 6,505 yards. This means he gained a lot of yards from running, catching, and returning kicks. He ran for over 100 yards in 22 games, setting records for Tulane and Conference USA. His 36 career touchdowns are the second-most in Tulane and C-USA history. Moore also set Tulane's single-season rushing record twice.
Moore was also drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. He spent three summers playing baseball while in college.
Freshman Year: 2000 Season
In 2000, Moore was named the Freshman of the Year for Conference USA. He was also chosen as a Freshman All-America player by The Sporting News and Football News. Moore started 7 of the 10 games he played for the Tulane Green Wave.
He caught a 74-yard touchdown pass against Army. He had a season-high 131 rushing yards and 56 receiving yards against East Carolina. He also ran for 114 yards against Cincinnati. Moore gained over 100 rushing yards against Memphis and Southern Methodist too.
Sophomore Year: 2001 Season
In 2001, Moore was named to the 1st-Team All-C-USA. He set a new Tulane single-season rushing record with 1,422 yards. He ran for over 100 yards seven times that season.
Moore also set a school record with 249 rushing yards on 28 attempts. This broke a record that had stood since 1970. In that game, he also caught 6 passes for 87 yards. He became the first Tulane player to gain over 100 yards in both rushing and receiving in one game. This happened against Navy, where he had 131 rushing yards and 130 receiving yards. Moore also ran for 201 yards and had 70 receiving yards against Southern. He had a career-best 168 receiving yards with two touchdowns against Army.
Junior Year: 2002 Season
In 2002, Moore was again named to the All-C-USA team by The Sporting News. He became only the second player in Tulane history to run for 1,000 yards in two seasons in a row. He led the team in both rushing and receiving. He averaged 129.5 all-purpose yards per game.
He scored two rushing touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass against East Carolina. He also ran for a season-high 147 yards against Southern. Moore carried the ball 32 times for 136 yards and caught 5 passes for 58 yards against Southern Mississippi. He caught a 47-yard touchdown pass against TCU. Moore ran for 116 yards and had 6 receptions for 80 yards against Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl.
Senior Year: 2003 Season
In 2003, Moore earned 1st-Team C-USA honors. He was on the watch lists for the Doak Walker Award and Walter Camp Award. These awards honor the best running back and overall player in college football. Moore started the first 9 games but missed the last 3 due to a broken hand that needed surgery.
He was second in C-USA with 101.0 rushing yards per game and 147.0 all-purpose yards per game. Moore ran for 100 yards and had 116 receiving yards against Northwestern State. He scored three touchdowns on passes in that game. He also had 114 rushing yards against Texas with two rushing touchdowns. Moore ran for a season-best 159 yards against Memphis. He had 123 rushing yards and a 25-yard touchdown against Louisville. Moore recorded 115 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards against Army before his season-ending injury.

Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings selected Mewelde Moore with the 119th pick in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He joined the team after his successful college career at Tulane University.
Pittsburgh Steelers
On March 3, 2008, Moore signed a three-year contract to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He got a chance to start when other running backs, Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall, were injured. Even though he was a backup for most of the year, he still gained 588 rushing yards and scored 5 rushing touchdowns. He also had 320 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He even threw one passing touchdown!
At the end of the 2010 season, Moore and the Steelers played in Super Bowl XLV against the Green Bay Packers. He had three rushes for 13 yards and one kickoff return for 11 yards in the game, which the Steelers lost 31–25.
Indianapolis Colts
In 2012, Mewelde Moore signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. He did not score any touchdowns with the Colts and was released in October 2012. The Colts re-signed him in December to play against Houston. However, he lost a key fumble near the goal line in that game.
Personal Life
Mewelde Moore is a very smart person. He took 24 college credits in the spring of 2004 to graduate on time. He earned two degrees from Tulane University: one in Finance and one in Accounting. Moore was known for winning math contests even before he went to college.
He is very involved in helping the community. He works with groups like the National Football Foundation and United Way. He also supports youth education through his "Mewelde Moore Knowledge First Foundation." Moore often visits his old college, Tulane, to help with fundraising events. He is married to his college girlfriend, Tymeka. His wife Tymeka played basketball for Tulane. His brother-in-law Willie played basketball for the University of Houston.
