Meyne Wyatt (born 1989) is an Aboriginal Australian actor. He is well-known for his many roles in plays, movies, and TV shows.

He played a supporting role in the musical movie The Sapphires in 2012. He also started working with the Bell Shakespeare company that year. His acting in the TV show Redfern Now earned him nominations for awards. From 2014 to 2016, Wyatt played Nate Kinski in the popular TV show Neighbours.

Meyne Wyatt's Early Life

Meyne Wyatt was born in Kalgoorlie, Australia, in 1989. His mother, Sue, is a painter and illustrator. His father, Brian, worked for the National Native Title Council. Meyne's father was a Yamatji man, and his mother is from the Wongatha group. He is the youngest of four children. When he was 13, he went to Hale School in Perth.

After school, Wyatt studied theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). He was accepted into both WAAPA and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). He chose to attend NIDA and finished his studies in 2010.

Meyne Wyatt's Acting Career

After graduating from NIDA, Wyatt performed in many plays. These plays were in cities like Sydney, Adelaide, and Brisbane. In 2011, he won the Best Newcomer award at the Sydney Theatre Awards. This was for his role as an Aboriginal teenager in the play Silent Disco.

In 2012, Wyatt was cast as Jimmy Middleton in the musical movie The Sapphires. He also joined the Bell Shakespeare company. He performed in their play The School for Wives.

Film and TV Roles

In 2013, Wyatt played the main role in Peter Pan. This play was shown at the New Victory Theater. That same year, he acted in The Broken Shore. This was a TV mini-series based on a book. He also appeared in the movie The Turning. In this film, he played Frank Leaper, a footballer.

Wyatt also appeared in the second season of Redfern Now. He played a father whose new baby goes missing. He was supposed to be in the first season but couldn't due to other work. In 2014, Wyatt joined the movie Strangerland. He acted alongside famous stars like Nicole Kidman.

Joining Neighbours

On July 20, 2014, it was announced that Wyatt would join the TV show Neighbours. He played the character Nate Kinski. Meyne Wyatt was the first Indigenous actor to join the main cast of the show since it began in 1985. The show's producer said Wyatt was the best actor for the role. Wyatt moved to Melbourne for filming. His first appearance as Nate was on August 18, 2014. He also started appearing in the comedy show Black Comedy in November 2014.

Wyatt took a break from Neighbours to act in a play called King Lear. He performed with Geoffrey Rush from November 2015 to January 2016. Wyatt's father passed away in October, which made him miss some rehearsals. However, Wyatt found acting in the play to be a helpful distraction. He also appeared in the movie What If It Works?.

Wyatt left Neighbours in early 2016. His last scenes aired in June that year. In 2017, Wyatt appeared in the American TV series The Leftovers. In 2018, he was a regular actor in the TV drama Mystery Road.

Writing and Recent Work

Wyatt's first play, City of Gold, was published in July 2019. This play was performed in Brisbane and then in Sydney. In 2021, Wyatt, along with other actors, spoke out about racism they experienced on the set of Neighbours.

Wyatt starred in the 2021 ABC comedy series Preppers. He also appeared in the films The Moogai and Strife.

Other Activities

In June 2020, Wyatt gave a powerful speech on the TV show Q+A. This speech was about the Black Lives Matter movement and Aboriginal deaths in custody. He spoke about how racism affected his life. Many people praised his speech, with one comedian calling it "the best two minutes of Australian television ever".

In 2020, Wyatt entered a painted self-portrait in the Archibald Prize. He became the first Indigenous artist to win the Packing Room Prize in September 2020. This is a special award given by the people who handle the artworks.

He also helped write a children's book called Maku. It was published in 2022 and co-authored with Randa Abdel-Fattah.
