Michelle Malkin (born October 20, 1970) is an American political commentator and author. She has written several books and founded conservative websites like Twitchy and Hot Air. She has also been a contributor for Fox News and Newsmax TV.

Early life and education
Michelle Malkin was born on October 20, 1970, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Rafaela and Apolo DeCastro Maglalang, were from the Philippines and moved to the United States before she was born. Her father was a doctor. The family later moved to Absecon, New Jersey. Malkin has said her parents were Republicans who supported Ronald Reagan.
Malkin is Roman Catholic. She went to Holy Spirit High School, where she was the editor of the school newspaper. She also wanted to become a concert pianist. After graduating in 1988, she attended Oberlin College. She first planned to study music but changed her major to English. While in college, she worked different jobs, including helping with taxes. She wrote for a conservative student newspaper at Oberlin, which was started by Jesse Malkin, who later became her husband. She graduated in 1992.
Career in media
Journalism and columns
Malkin started her journalism career as a columnist for the Los Angeles Daily News from 1992 to 1994. In 1995, she worked in Washington, D.C. at a libertarian research group called the Competitive Enterprise Institute. In 1996, she moved to Seattle, Washington, and became a columnist for The Seattle Times.
Since 1999, Malkin has written a column that is published in many newspapers and websites through Creators Syndicate. Her column appears in places like Townhall.
Online ventures
On April 24, 2006, Malkin started a conservative blog called Hot Air. She was the CEO until she sold the website in 2010. In February 2010, Salem Communications bought Hot Air from her.
In March 2012, Malkin founded another website called Twitchy. This site collects and organizes content from Twitter. She sold Twitchy to Salem Communications the next year.
For many years, Malkin was a frequent commentator on Fox News and often filled in as a guest host for The O'Reilly Factor. She later joined Newsmax TV in May 2020, where she hosted a show called Sovereign Nation.
Books published
Malkin has written several books. Her first book, Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces, was published in 2002. It became a bestseller on the New York Times list.
In 2004, she published In Defense of Internment: The Case for 'Racial Profiling' in World War II and the War on Terror. This book discussed the U.S. government's decision to hold Japanese Americans in camps during World War II. The book received different reactions from people.
Her third book, Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild, came out in October 2005. Malkin's fourth book, Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies, was released in July 2009. It stayed on The New York Times bestseller list for six weeks.
Her fifth book, Who Built That: Awe-Inspiring Stories of American Tinkerpreneurs, was published in May 2015. She also co-authored Sold Out: How High-Tech Billionaires & Bipartisan Beltway Crapweasels Are Screwing America's Best & Brightest Workers in 2015 with John Miano. Her book Open Borders Inc.: Who's Funding America's Destruction? was published in 2019.
Blogging activities
In June 2004, Malkin started her own political blog, MichelleMalkin.com. In 2008, her blog was one of the largest conservative blogs. In April 2020, Malkin moved her blog and its past articles to The Unz Review.
Public speaking

For 17 years, Malkin was a speaker for Young America's Foundation (YAF), an organization that promotes conservative ideas. In November 2019, YAF ended its relationship with Malkin.
Malkin has also spoken at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which is a large annual meeting for conservatives. She spoke there in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, she spoke at the America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC).
Personal life
Michelle Malkin met Jesse Malkin while they were in college at Oberlin. They got married in 1993 and have two children. Jesse Malkin used to work as a healthcare consultant. He is now retired and helps his wife with her speaking events and business.
Malkin and her family lived in North Bethesda, Maryland, until 2008, when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
