Michael Lawrence Chappell is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was born on January 21, 1978, in Southfield, Michigan. He played as a shooting guard and small forward during his career.

Mike Chappell's College Basketball Journey
Mike Chappell was a highly sought-after basketball player in high school. He chose to attend Duke University from 1996 to 1998. At Duke, he played under famous coach Mike Krzyzewski. In 1998, Chappell started in more than half of the team's games.
In the fall of 1998, Chappell transferred to Michigan State University. There, he played for coach Tom Izzo. He was a key part of a very strong team. In 2000, his team won the NCAA National Title, which is a huge achievement in college basketball. The team also reached the Final Four in 2001.
Professional Basketball Career
After finishing college at Michigan State University, Mike Chappell began his professional career. He joined the Wollongong Hawks in Australia for the 2001–2002 season. Then, he played for the Canberra Cannons from 2002 to 2003 in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL).
Exciting Moments in Australia
Mike Chappell became very popular in the NBL. He returned to play for the New Zealand Breakers in 2003. In 2004, he set an NBL record by scoring an amazing 44 points in one game against the Perth Wildcats. His success in Australia even caught the attention of teams in the United States. He was chosen to play for the Toronto Raptors in the 2004 NBA Summer League.
During the 2002 NBL off-season, Chappell and the Canberra Cannons visited the United States. They played against several college teams. One special game was against the Michigan State Spartans at the Breslin Center. For this game, the Cannons had a very famous guest player: Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson is an NBA legend and one of the greatest basketball players ever. This game celebrated Johnson's entry into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. The Cannons won the game 104–85.
Playing Around the World
After his time in the NBL, Mike Chappell played basketball in other countries. He played in Portugal for a team called Queluz. He also played professionally in Lebanon for Champville.
In August 2006, Chappell signed a contract to play for the Sendai 89ers in Japan's Basketball Japan League. In May 2007, he returned to the Australian NBL. He joined the Adelaide 36ers as one of their international players. At the 36ers, he reunited with Adam Ballinger, who was his teammate at Michigan State from 1999 to 2001.
Later, from summer 2008 to December 2008, Chappell played for the Budivelnik Kyiv club in Ukraine. In autumn 2009, he joined the Tokyo Apache in Japan. His team made it to the playoffs but lost to the Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix. He left the Tokyo Apache in May 2010.
Personal Life
When Mike Chappell is not playing basketball, he enjoys spending time with his son, Isaiah Chappell. Isaiah was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 16, 2005. Because of this, Isaiah has dual citizenship in both the United States and New Zealand. The New Zealand national basketball team, known as The Tall Blacks, has even joked about inviting Isaiah to join their team someday!
