Michael Lawrence Chappell (born January 21, 1978) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was born in Southfield, Michigan. Mike played as a shooting guard and small forward. He had an exciting career playing for teams around the world!

College Basketball Journey
Mike Chappell was a top player in high school. Many big universities wanted him to play for their teams. He chose to go to Duke University from 1996 to 1998. There, he played under famous coach Mike Krzyzewski. Mike even started in more than half of Duke's games in 1998.
Later, in 1998, Mike moved to Michigan State University. He joined a very strong team led by coach Tom Izzo. Mike helped Michigan State win the national championship in 2000. This is a huge achievement in college basketball! His team also reached the Final Four in 2001.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Mike Chappell began his professional career. He first played in Australia for the Wollongong Hawks (2001–2002). Then he joined the Canberra Cannons (2002–2003) in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL).
Setting Records in Australia
Mike became very popular in the NBL. He returned to play for the New Zealand Breakers in 2003. In 2004, Mike Chappell made NBL history. He scored an amazing 44 points in one game! This was against the Perth Wildcats. His success in Australia even caught the attention of teams in the USA. He was chosen to play for the Toronto Raptors in the 2004 NBA Summer League.
Playing with a Legend
During a break in the NBL season in 2002, Mike's team, the Cannons, visited the United States. They played against different college teams. One special game was against the Michigan State Spartans. For this game, the Cannons had a very famous player join them: Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson is an NBA legend and one of the best basketball players ever. This game celebrated Magic Johnson being added to the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Cannons, with Magic, won the game 104–85!
Adventures Overseas
After playing in Australia, Mike Chappell went to Europe. He played basketball professionally in Portugal and Lebanon. In 2006, he signed with the Sendai 89ers in Japan. In 2007, Mike returned to Australia. He joined the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL again. One of his teammates there was Adam Ballinger, who also played with Mike at Michigan State.
Mike later played for Budivelnik Kyiv in Ukraine in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, he played for the Tokyo Apache in Japan. He had a long and exciting career playing basketball all over the world!
Mike's Family Life
When Mike Chappell isn't playing basketball, he loves spending time with his son, Isaiah Chappell. Isaiah was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 16, 2005. Because of this, Isaiah is a citizen of both the United States and New Zealand. The New Zealand national basketball team, called The Tall Blacks, has even joked that they hope Isaiah will join their team someday!
