Millville's Past: A Look at Its History
Millville was first settled way back in 1662. It became an official town in 1916. This happened when it separated from Blackstone, Massachusetts. Before that, Blackstone was part of Mendon. The land was originally home to the Nipmuc people.
Millville is located in the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. This area is known for its history. You can see a very old lock there. This lock was part of the Blackstone Canal in the early 1800s. Canals were like water highways for boats. The town also has a historic Friends Meetinghouse.
A famous baseball player named Gabby Hartnett grew up in Millville. He was born nearby in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Gabby played youth baseball in the Blackstone Valley League. He later became a star for the Chicago Cubs starting in 1922.
