Miranda Jane Richardson (born 3 March 1958) is a talented English actress. She has starred in many films, TV shows, and theatre plays.
After finishing her studies at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Miranda started her acting career in 1979. She first performed in London's famous West End in 1981. Later, she was nominated for a big award, the Olivier Award for Best Actress, for her role in the play A Lie of the Mind.
Miranda Richardson has received many important awards and nominations. She was nominated for two Academy Awards, which are also known as the Oscars. She won a BAFTA Award for her role in the film Damage. She has also won two Golden Globe Awards for her work in Enchanted April and the TV film Fatherland.

On Stage: Theatre Roles
Miranda Richardson studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Other famous actors like Daniel Day-Lewis also studied there. Before that, she performed in plays like Cinderella at her local drama club.
In 1979, Miranda joined the Manchester Library Theatre. She worked as an assistant stage manager and also acted in many plays. Her first performance in London was in the play Moving in 1981. She became well-known for her theatre work in the West End. She was even nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in A Lie of the Mind. In 1985, Miranda Richardson made her first film appearance. She played Ruth Ellis in the movie Dance with a Stranger. Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom. Around the same time, Miranda also played a funny version of Queen Elizabeth I in the British TV comedy Blackadder II. Her character was known as Queenie.
After Dance with a Stranger, Miranda was offered many roles where characters were troubled. She turned them down. Instead, she appeared in films like Empire of the Sun (1987). She also played a witch in an episode of the TV series The Storyteller. She returned to play Queenie in other Blackadder specials, including Blackadder's Christmas Carol and Blackadder: Back and Forth.
Miranda has had many other TV roles. She played Queen Elspeth (Snow White's stepmother) in Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (2001). She also played Queen Mary in The Lost Prince (2003).
She has played supporting roles in many films. These include Vanessa Bell in The Hours and Lady Van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow. She was praised for her acting in The Crying Game and Enchanted April. Miranda also played Queen Rosalind in The Prince and Me. She was the ballet teacher Madame Giry in the film The Phantom of the Opera. In 2005, she appeared as Rita Skeeter, a journalist, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She also voiced Corky in an Australian children's animated series. In 2007, she played Mrs Claus in the movie Fred Claus.
In 2014, Miranda was cast as Queen Ulla in Maleficent. However, her role was cut from the final movie. In 2015, she played Sybil Birling in a TV adaptation of An Inspector Calls. She returned to voice Mrs. Tweedy again in the 2023 sequel, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
Personal Life
Miranda Richardson enjoys several hobbies. She likes walking her dogs, gardening, and falconry (working with birds of prey). In 2013, she started learning to play the cello.
