Miss Beazley's Family and Early Life
Miss Beazley was a purebred Scottish Terrier. Her father was a dog named Clinton. He was born in November 2000. Clinton was also the half-brother of the Bushes' other Scottish Terrier, Barney.
Miss Beazley's mother was Blackwatch Elizabeth. Both Miss Beazley and her mother were bred by Patricia Gilmore. She was a dog breeder from Livingston, New Jersey. Miss Beazley was born in 2004.
Life in the White House
President George W. Bush gave Miss Beazley as a birthday gift to his wife, Laura Bush. Miss Beazley was just ten weeks old when she moved into the White House. This happened on January 6, 2005. It was just before President Bush started his second term in office.
Laura Bush and her daughters, Barbara and Jenna, chose her name. They named her after a character from a children's book. The book was called The Enormous Egg, written by Oliver Butterworth in 1956.
Miss Beazley and Barney, the Bushes' other Scottish Terrier, became famous. They were known as "presidential pets." In 2005, Miss Beazley and Barney starred in a White House Christmas video. It was called A Very Beazley Christmas. This was Miss Beazley's first holiday season in the White House.
Later Life and Legacy
After President Bush's time in office ended, Miss Beazley moved to Texas with the family. She lived there until she passed away on May 17, 2014. Her death was caused by lymphoma, which is a type of cancer.
Today, both Barney and Miss Beazley are remembered. There is a bronze sculpture of them at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. This sculpture honors their time as beloved presidential pets.
