Mitchell is a city in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Scottsbluff, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,548 people at the 2020 census.

History of Mitchell
Mitchell was started in 1900. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built its tracks further west to this spot. The city was named after a historic place nearby called Fort Mitchell. This fort was named after General Robert B. Mitchell. He was a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Mitchell officially became a city in 1902.

The Scotts Bluff County Fair is held in Mitchell every year. This fair first started in 1887. The fair includes a pageant, live music, a livestock show (where farm animals are shown), and a circus.
