My-Otome (pronounced Mai-Otome) is an exciting anime series created by Sunrise Inc.. It's a bit like another show called My-HiME because it uses some of the same characters. However, in My-Otome, these characters have different personalities and live in a new story.

The Story of My-Otome

The story of My-Otome takes place in the future on a planet called Earl. On Earl, special tiny machines called nanomachines help keep old technology working. These nanomachines also give amazing powers to special girls known as Otomes.

Otomes train at a school called Garderobe Academy. Their goal is to become Meister Otomes, also known as "Dancing Star Girls." These powerful girls protect important people, usually royal members, from different kingdoms on Earl.

The story begins with a woman named Rena Searrs. She was an Otome, but she lost her powers after having a baby. To protect her Master, a king from Windbloom, she fights bravely. She then places her necklace on her baby daughter and sends her away in a floating casket down a river.

Fourteen years later, a girl named Arika Yumemiya arrives at Garderobe Academy. She wants to become an Otome, just like her mother, whom she doesn't know much about. Arika faces many challenges at the school. Things from her past make it hard for her to become an Otome. But with her cheerful spirit, she tries her best to overcome these difficulties. This series shows Arika's journey as she learns what it truly means to be an Otome. She also discovers how she might save the world from the power of the legendary Harmonium.

Important My-Otome Terms

Here are some special words and phrases used in the world of My-Otome.

Otome

Otomes (which means "Girls") are very powerful young women on the planet Earl. They are said to be as strong as 100 soldiers combined! Otomes train at Garderobe Academy. After they graduate, they become Meisters, or "Dancing Star Girls." An Otome can only use her full powers when her Master kisses her special earring.

Some Otomes can become part of a special group called the Five Pillars. These Otomes are so powerful that they don't need a Master to use their abilities.

Master

When a royal person makes a special contract with an Otome, they become the Otome's Master. An Otome can only use her powers if her Master kisses her. The Master and Otome share a very close bond. If the Otome dies, her Master also dies. And if the Master dies, the Otome also dies.

Five Pillars

The Five Pillars are a group of five very strong Otomes. They are unique because they use something called the Shinsou. This means they do not need a Master to use their powers.

Shinsou

The Shinsou is a special source of power. It allows the Five Pillars to use their abilities without a Master. There is only one Shinsou in the world.

Gem

A gem is a special jewel that a Master and an Otome use to make their contract. There are two identical gems for each pair. One gem is for the Master, usually on their ring. The other gem is for the Otome, on her earring. This earring is what the Master kisses to activate the Otome's powers. Very strong Otomes can also kiss their own gem to activate their powers.

The word Material means an object. To materialise means that something hidden suddenly appears. In My-Otome, materialising is when the Otome's special Robe (which is like a Combat Suit) appears. This allows them to fight.

Slave Monster

A Slave Monster is an evil robot. It is controlled by a person called a Slave Master.

Slave Master

Like a Master, a Slave Master shares a life with their protector. But instead of Otomes, they have a Slave Monster. They don't need a contract to make their Slave Monster appear. Slave Monsters don't "materialise" in the same way Otomes do. A Slave Master calls their Slave Monster by using a Slave Crystal. They must also make a pledge to the God of Wisdom, believing in his wisdom. Then they call out a loyal slave for themselves. A Slave Master must always follow the orders of the Slave leader, who is John Smith in My-Otome.

Slave Crystal

A Slave Crystal is a diamond-shaped crystal. To call out a Slave Monster, a Slave Master must put their blood into the crystal. They do this by pressing their thumb onto the crystal while making their pledge.

Harmonium

A harmonium is a special musical instrument. It can only be opened by a protector, a creator, or a sword. Inside the harmonium is a piano. This piano can only be played when all three conditions (protector, creator, and sword) are met and step onto its staircase. When the piano is played, it can grant the players anything they desire or want to have.
