Montmelon is a small village in the Jura canton of Switzerland. It used to be its own separate municipality. The village is located in the Porrentruy district.
On January 1, 2009, Montmelon became part of a new, larger municipality called Clos du Doubs. This means it joined with other nearby villages to form one bigger community.
Where is Montmelon?
Montmelon is found in the northwestern part of Switzerland. It is part of the Jura canton, which is one of Switzerland's 26 cantons (like states or provinces). The village sits in a beautiful area with hills and valleys.
Nearby Places
Montmelon is close to several other small towns and villages. Some of its neighbors include Asuel, Saint-Ursanne, and Glovelier. These villages are all part of the same region in the Jura mountains.
Life in Montmelon
Montmelon is a quiet place with a small population. In 2003, about 114 people lived there. The village is made up of a few different parts, including Montmelon-Dessus, Montmelon-Dessous, and Ravines. These names often refer to "upper" and "lower" sections of the village.
What is a Municipality?
A municipality is like a local government area. It's a small region with its own administration that takes care of things like local services and rules. Before 2009, Montmelon had its own municipality. Now, it's part of the larger Clos du Doubs municipality, which handles these tasks for a wider area.
