Daron Oshay "Mookie" Blaylock (born March 20, 1967) is a retired American professional basketball player. He played for 13 years in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the New Jersey Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and the Golden State Warriors.

Blaylock was famous for his amazing defense. He was known for his quick hands and skill at stealing the ball from opponents.

College Basketball Career

Blaylock was a 6-foot-tall point guard, a player who directs the team's offense. He first played for Garland High School and then Midland College. At Midland, he was named an NJCAA All-American in 1987.

Later, he joined the University of Oklahoma Sooners. He was known as one of the best defensive players in college basketball. In 1988, he helped lead the Sooners all the way to the NCAA championship game. His great defense led to him getting more than 200 steals in a season five times in his career.

In the 1989 NBA draft, the New Jersey Nets chose Blaylock as the 12th overall pick. He quickly became an important player for the team.

Before the 1992–93 season, the Nets traded Blaylock to the Atlanta Hawks. In Atlanta, he became a star player under coach Lenny Wilkens. He played for the Hawks for seven years and became their all-time leader in steals. He was also chosen to play in the 1994 NBA All-Star Game.

After his time with the Hawks, Blaylock was traded to the Golden State Warriors. He finished his career playing as a reserve for the Warriors.

Personal Life

Blaylock has three sons who are also talented athletes. His twin sons, Daron and Zack, played college football for the University of Kentucky. His youngest son, Dominick, plays football for Georgia Tech.

Interestingly, Mookie Betts, a famous baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was named after Mookie Blaylock.
