Moonachie (pronounced moo-NAH-kee) is a small town, called a borough, in Bergen County, New Jersey. It is located near the Hackensack River. In 2020, about 3,133 people lived there. This was an increase of 425 people since the 2010 census.

The name Moonachie is believed to come from Monaghie, an Iroquois chief. He lived in the local cedar forests back in the 1600s. Moonachie officially became a borough on April 11, 1910. This happened after people voted for it on May 3, 1910. Later, in 1917, parts of Moonachie were used to create the nearby town of Teterboro.

Most people say the name "moo-NAH-kee." However, in 1987, the mayor of New York City, Ed Koch, joked about it. He mispronounced it "mah-NOO-chee." He said the New York Giants football team should have their victory parade in Moonachie. This was because the Giants play their games in New Jersey, not New York City.
