Morozoff Limited (モロゾフ株式会社, Morozofu Kabushiki Gaisha) is a famous company in Japan. It makes delicious confectionery (sweets) and cakes. The company's main office is in Kobe, Japan.
Morozoff was started in 1931 by Fyodor Dmitriyevich Morozov. He was from Russia. Since then, Morozoff has grown a lot. It now has many restaurants and cafes all over Japan.
Morozoff and Valentine's Day
Morozoff is well-known in Japan for something special. It was the first company to bring the idea of Valentine's Day to the country.
How Valentine's Day Started in Japan
In 1936, Morozoff placed an advertisement in a newspaper called the Japan Advertiser. This newspaper was for people from other countries living in Japan. The ad said, "For your Valentine, Make A Present of Morozoff’s Fancy Box Chocolates."
However, Valentine's Day did not become popular right away. It took some time. After World War II, in the 1950s and 1960s, other stores and companies started to join in. That's when Valentine's Day truly became a big event across Japan.
