Naming the Mountain
Mount Abbot was named after a man named Henry Larcom Abbot. In 1855, he was part of a group called the Williamson party. This group was exploring California and Oregon to find the best routes for a new railroad. Henry Larcom Abbot later became a high-ranking officer in the United States Army. He retired in 1904 as a brigadier general.
