Mount Lola is a tall mountain located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada range in California. Its top, called the summit, is the highest point in Nevada County. This makes it a very special landmark for the area.
Mount Lola is also the highest mountain in the Sierra Nevada range found north of a major highway, Interstate 80. About 1.2 miles (1.9 km) north of Mount Lola's main summit, there is another peak. This smaller peak is the highest point in Sierra County, reaching 8,848 feet (2,697 meters) high.
Why is it called Mount Lola?
Mount Lola was named after a very interesting person named Lola Montez. She was a famous dancer and actress who lived in Grass Valley during the 1850s. Lola Montez was well-known in Nevada County, and the mountain was named in her honor.
Weather on the Mountain
Because Mount Lola is so high up, it gets a lot of snow, especially during the winter months. This heavy snowfall is common for mountains at such high elevations. It helps create the beautiful winter landscapes the Sierra Nevada is known for.
