List of highest points in California by county facts for kids
California is a state with many different types of land, from sunny beaches to tall mountains. Every county in California has a highest point, which is like its own special peak. This article lists these highest points for each county, helping you discover the tallest spots across the state!
Understanding Heights
The heights listed here are measured using a special system called North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). It's the standard way to measure heights across North America. This helps everyone agree on how tall a mountain or hill truly is.
How Heights Are Measured
These heights come from official sources. The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) provides many of the measurements. Other heights are found on United States Geological Survey (USGS) topographic maps. You can often find more details on websites like Peakbagger.com.
Sometimes, a plus sign (+) is next to a height. This means the exact height was estimated using special maps. The actual height is somewhere between the number shown and about 40 feet higher. Heights from the NGS are usually rounded to the nearest whole number.
