Discovering Mount Washington

Where is Mount Washington Located?

Mount Washington is nestled in King County, Washington, a part of the larger Cascade Range. This mountain is a notable landmark for travelers on Interstate 90, which passes nearby. Its position offers a fantastic gateway to the rugged beauty of the Cascades from the more populated areas around Puget Sound.

How Mount Washington Got Its Name

Long ago, this mountain was sometimes called "Profile Mountain." This unique name came from a special cliff on the mountain. When viewed from a certain angle, this cliff looked exactly like the side view of George Washington's face! George Washington was the very first president of the United States, and many places are named in his honor.

Exploring the Trails and Views

Even though Mount Washington is not as tall as some of its neighbors, it offers incredible experiences for those who visit. While there isn't a formal, marked hiking trail to its very top, adventurers can still find ways to explore its slopes. The journey to the summit is especially famous for the breathtaking views it provides. From the peak, you can often see wide-open landscapes, including parts of the Cascade Mountains and the surrounding valleys.
