Mpu Sindok facts for kids
Śrī Mahārāja Rake Halu Dyaḥ Siṇḍok Śrī Īśānawikrama Dharmottuṅgadewawijaya (also known as Dyah Sindok or Mpu Sindok) was an important king in ancient Indonesia. He was the last ruler of the Sanjaya dynasty in the Mataram Kingdom, which was located in Central Java. King Sindok ruled from about 928 or 929 AD.
A big event during his reign was moving the capital city of the Mataram Kingdom. In 929 AD, he moved the kingdom's main power center from Central Java to East Java. This move might have happened because of a volcano eruption from Mount Merapi. It could also have been due to an attack from a powerful kingdom called Srivijaya.

Moving the Kingdom
The new capital city for the Mataram Kingdom was named Watugaluh. This city was built along the Brantas River. Today, this area is close to Jombang Regency in East Java.
King Sindok also started a new royal family line. This new family was called the Ishana dynasty. Because of this, the kingdom under his rule is sometimes called "Ishana." An old stone carving, known as the Calcutta Stone, tells us about King Sindok's family. It even mentions his descendants, like Airlangga, who lived much later in the 11th century AD. This stone carving is now kept in a museum in Kolkata, India.
Family and Successor
King Sindok had two wives. One of his wives was named Sri Parameswari Dyah Kbi. She was likely the daughter of the previous king, Dyah Wawa. This marriage probably helped Sindok become the next king of Mataram.
Important Writings
During King Sindok's time, some very important books were written. These include the famous poem called the Kakawin Ramayana. Another significant work was the Sanghyang Kamahayanikan. These writings tell us a lot about the culture and beliefs of that time.
After King Sindok, his daughter became the next ruler. Her name was Sri Isanatungawijaya.
