Mundoo is a small country town and area in Queensland, Australia. It's located in the Cassowary Coast Region. In 2021, about 197 people lived in Mundoo.

What is Mundoo Like?

Mundoo is located south of a bigger town called Innisfail. The South Johnstone River forms the western edge of Mundoo. The town itself is pretty small, with just a few houses. It's also near the Innisfail Aerodrome, which is like a small airport.

Most of the land in Mundoo is used to grow sugar cane. This is the main crop in this area. You can also find small farms growing bananas and other tropical fruits, like pawpaw.

A train line called the North Coast railway line runs through Mundoo. There used to be a train station here, but it's not used anymore. You'll also see many special small train tracks called cane tramways. These are used to carry the harvested sugar cane to the local sugar mills.

A Look at Mundoo's History

The town of Mundoo got its name from the Mundoo railway station. The Queensland Railways Department named it on August 21, 1919. People believe the name comes from a local Aboriginal clan.

Mundoo used to have a Post Office. It first opened on July 1, 1927, but it closed in 1931. It opened again in 1953 and then closed for good in 1974.

The Mundoo Provisional School first opened its doors on August 5, 1895. Later, on January 1, 1909, it became the Mundoo State School.
