Musakhan (Arabic: مسخّن) is a super tasty and famous dish from Palestine. It's often called the national dish of Palestine! This delicious meal is made with roasted chicken, soft onions, and a special tangy spice called sumac. These ingredients are usually served on a unique flatbread called taboon bread. Sometimes, it's also known as muhammar (Arabic: محمر).

Musakhan is very popular in the Levant region, which includes Palestine, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. It's especially loved by Palestinians and people of Arab heritage living in Israel and Jordan. This dish first came from the areas around Tulkarm and Jenin in Palestine.

Making Musakhan is quite simple, and you can easily find the ingredients. This is one reason why it's so popular! Many of the things used in Musakhan, like olive oil, sumac, and pine nuts, are common in Palestinian cuisine. People usually eat Musakhan with their hands. The chicken is often placed right on top of the bread. The word "musakhan" actually means "something that is heated."

World Records

On April 20, 2010, something amazing happened in Ramallah, Palestine. The biggest Musakhan dish ever was made! It was so huge that it earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Prime Minister of Palestine at the time, Salam Fayad, said it was a big achievement for the Palestinian people. He explained that this record-breaking dish used only Palestinian products, especially olive oil. He also mentioned that it showed the world a part of Palestinian culture and their hopes for their rights.

This giant Musakhan loaf was 4 meters (about 13 feet) wide! It weighed a massive 1,350 kilograms (almost 3,000 pounds). Forty Palestinian cooks worked together to create it. They used 250 kilograms of flour, 170 kilograms of olive oil, 500 kilograms of onions, and 70 kilograms of almonds.
