Mynthon is a popular Finnish brand of pastilles, which are small, firm candies. These refreshing pastilles are owned by a company called Cloetta. Mynthon has been around since the 1970s and is super popular in Finland, selling about 22 million packs every year! It's the top-selling pastille brand there, holding about 30% of the market. Besides Finland, you can also find Mynthon in the Baltic countries, Sweden, and Norway. Many people think of Mynthon as a symbol of freshness, and they are often used to help soothe a sore throat.

How Mynthon Started

Mynthon pastilles first appeared in the 1970s. Back then, they were made by a company called Merijal in Oulu, Finland. Later, in 1992, Merijal joined with another company called Leaf. Leaf then started making Mynthon pastilles in Turku, Finland, and also in St. Petersburg, Russia. Today, Mynthon pastilles are made in Slovakia.

For a long time, Mynthon was one of Leaf's most loved products. It was one of the best-selling pastille brands in Eastern Europe and a leader in the Baltic countries. For example, in 2003, Mynthon was the second most popular pastille brand in Russia. Russia was a very important country for Leaf's exports, and Mynthon pastilles were their most important product to send there. By 2008, Mynthon was Finland's second most popular pastille brand, right after Sisu, which was also made by Leaf. At that time, Leaf made about 70% of all pastilles sold in Finland. In 2010, Mynthon's share of the Finnish pastille market was about 30%.

Mynthon Flavours

Mynthon pastilles come in many different flavours! You can find classic tastes like eucalyptus and menthol. There are also fun flavours like cola, different fruits, and berries. Some Mynthon pastilles are made with sugar, while others are sugar-free.

In 2012, Mynthon offered three main types: Original, Kaira, and Spring. Each type had a few different flavours. For example, the Original version had eight flavours.

By 2016, the range of Mynthon pastilles had grown even more. They had special Xylitol products, which are good for your teeth. There were also many sugar-free options with flavours like Extra Strong, Eucalyptus, Cool Mint, and Blackcurrant. Some pastilles came in bigger packs or multi-packs. Other Mynthon products included flavours like Lemon-Honey and Salty Liquorice.

Mynthon also made three flavours of chewing gum. These included Fresh Breath Aqua Menthol, Fresh Breath Ice Citrus, and Cool Mint chewing gum. In 2017, a new cola-flavoured Mynthon pastille was launched.

Mynthon's Cool Ads

Mynthon uses different ways to tell people about their products. In 2010, they changed their advertising company from Dynamo Advertising to Skandaali.

In 2015, Mynthon released a video to promote their pastilles. The video featured a beauty contestant named Sara Chafak. The video got some negative comments, and people questioned the idea behind it. Just two days after it was put online, Mynthon's Facebook page announced that the video would be taken down. They said, "Humour is an art and we failed to convey the message we wanted." This showed that sometimes, even big companies can learn from their marketing efforts.

In May 2016, a Finnish band called Teflon Brothers released a video saying they were changing their name to Mynthon Brothers! This was a fun way to get people talking. The band members joked about how artists sometimes change their names for big partnerships.

The video also featured Ville Perho, the CEO of Cloetta (the company that owns Mynthon). He had signed an agreement for the band to help market the Mynthon brand. Hanna Korhonen, Cloetta's chief of marketing, explained that they wanted Mynthon to appeal to a younger audience. She said working with Teflon Brothers was a new way to reach young men through media they enjoy. This partnership was planned to last a long time. It focused on social media, creating different types of content, and being present at summertime festivals. The collaboration started with a song called Lähiöunelmii, and its music video was even filmed in Los Angeles!
