Philadelphia has many historic spots, and 66 of them are right here in Northeast Philadelphia. One of these, Friends Hospital, is even a National Historic Landmark, which is a very special title given to places that are important to the whole country! Some places, like the Adams Avenue Bridge or Fox Chase Farm, are so big they even stretch into other parts of Philadelphia or nearby counties.

Many old schools in Northeast Philadelphia are on the National Register. These buildings have seen generations of students learn and grow!

  • 26th District Police and Patrol Station (2136–2142 East Dauphin Street, Kensington): This old police station has been around since 1984.
  • Ethan Allen School (3001 Robbins Avenue, Mayfair): Listed in 1988, this school has a long history in the Mayfair neighborhood.
  • William W. Axe School (1709–1733 Kinsey Street, Frankford): Another historic school, added in 1988.
  • Bridesburg School (2624 Haworth Street, Bridesburg): This school building dates back to 1847!

  • Friends Hospital (4641 Roosevelt Boulevard, Northwood): This hospital is a very special place. It was the first private hospital in the U.S. to help people with mental health needs, founded way back in 1813! It's a National Historic Landmark.
  • Glen Foerd on the Delaware (5001 Grant Avenue, Torresdale): This beautiful historic estate is located where the Poquessing Creek meets the Delaware River. It's a wonderful place to visit and learn about history. You can find out more at www.glenfoerd.org.
  • Greenbelt Knoll Historic District (1–19 Longford St., roughly bounded by Holme Ave. and Pennypack Park Greenway, Pennypack): This is a historic neighborhood area, recognized in 2010.
  • Knowlton Mansion (8001 Verree Road, Fox Chase): This beautiful mansion was added to the list in 1974.
  • Carl Mackley Houses (1401 East Bristol Street, Juniata): These unique homes were recognized in 1998 for their special design and history.
  • Ryerss Mansion (Central and Cottman Avenues, Fox Chase): This historic mansion was listed in 1976.
  • Fox Chase Farm (8500 Pine Road, Fox Chase): This historic farm, listed in 2005, is a great place to learn about farming history. It even extends into Montgomery County!
  • Tacony Disston Community Development Historic District (Roughly bounded by 4500-4900 blocks of Magee St., Princeton & Tyson Aves., 6900 blk. of Cottage St., Tacony): This is a historic neighborhood area in Tacony, recognized in 2016 for its special community development.
