Navy Yard City is a special kind of community in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially governed as one. In 2020, about 2,759 people lived there.

History of Navy Yard City

Navy Yard City started in 1909. Over the years, the nearby city of Bremerton tried to make Navy Yard City part of its own city. This process is called annexation. However, Navy Yard City always managed to stay independent. Today, Bremerton surrounds this community, but Navy Yard City remains its own place.

In 1932, a group called the West Side Improvement Club was formed. Their goal was to make the neighborhood "BIGGER AND BETTER." They worked hard to improve local roads and connect more homes to water pipes.

The club wanted a place to meet. So, in 1933, they bought 18 pieces of land to build their own clubhouse. Volunteers helped build it, and the Works Progress Administration (a government program that created jobs during the Great Depression) also helped. The clubhouse was finished in 1937. It was a large building with a playfield and a hall for events.

During World War II, the clubhouse became important for the Army. It was used as a headquarters to protect the Navy buildings nearby. The clubhouse is still standing today. People use it for regular events like bingo and potlucks, and the club still holds its meetings there.
