Nelson is a town located in Buffalo County, which is in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, about 571 people lived here. The small village of Nelson is actually found within the town itself. Other small communities like Misha Mokwa and the railroad spot called Trevino are also part of the town. A small portion of the community of Urne is also located here.
Where is Nelson Located?
Nelson is in the western part of Buffalo County. It sits right next to two important rivers: the Mississippi and the Chippewa. The Mississippi River forms the town's southwest edge. On the other side of the Mississippi is Wabasha County, Minnesota. The Chippewa River forms the town's western border. Across the Chippewa River is Pepin County, Wisconsin.
The town of Nelson completely surrounds the village of Nelson. The village is a separate area slightly southwest of the town's center. The city of Alma, Wisconsin is located along the southern border of the town. A bridge called the Wabasha–Nelson Bridge connects the village of Nelson to the city of Wabasha, Minnesota. This bridge carries Wisconsin Highway 25 across the Mississippi River.
The United States Census Bureau says that the town of Nelson covers about 77.7 square miles (201.2 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 68 square miles (176.1 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 9.7 square miles (25.1 square kilometers), is water.

Based on the census from 2000, there were 586 people living in the town. These people lived in 221 households, and 167 of these were families. The town had about 8.3 people per square mile (3.2 people per square kilometer). There were 265 housing units in total.
