Neso Lake is a beautiful glacial lake located in Manitoba, Canada. It's part of the Mistik Creek chain, which flows into the huge Hudson Bay. A glacial lake is a lake that was formed by the movement of glaciers. The area around Neso Lake is known as the Churchill River Upland. This region is part of the Midwestern Canadian Shield forests, which means it has many mixed coniferous forest trees.

The land around the lake has rocky ridges that run side-by-side. There are also wet, poorly drained areas called muskeg, which are like spongy wetlands. The lake's shoreline is rocky and uneven because of strong glaciation in the past. Neso Lake is also famous for being part of the "Mistik Creek Loop." This is a remote canoe route that is about 95 kilometers (59 miles) long. Experienced paddlers can complete this exciting trip in about four days.

You can find a fishing lodge and a provincial park right on Neso Lake. These places offer great opportunities for visitors to enjoy the lake and its natural surroundings.

What's in a Name?

The name "Neso" comes from the Cree language. It means "two." This is special because Neso Lake is one of fourteen lakes along Mistik Creek that are named in order using Cree numbers. It's the second lake in this unique naming system.

Here are the fourteen lakes, listed from south to north, with their Cree names and English meanings:
