Nesta Carter (born October 11, 1985) is a retired Jamaican sprinter. He was best known for his speed in the 100 metres race. Carter was a very important part of Jamaica's 4 × 100 metres relay team. He helped them win gold medals and set new world records. This happened at the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics.

He also won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2007 World Championship. Later, he won another gold at the 2015 World Championships. In 2013, Carter won a bronze medal in the individual 100 m race. This was at the World Championships in Moscow. He finished behind Justin Gatlin and his famous teammate Usain Bolt. After that, he won another gold medal with the 4 × 100 metres relay team.

In August 2010, Nesta Carter became one of the fastest sprinters ever. He ran the 100 metres in less than 9.8 seconds. His personal best time of 9.78 seconds in the 100 m makes him one of the fastest men in history. He retired from running on August 31, 2021.

Nesta Carter's Running Career

Nesta Carter went to Manchester High School in Jamaica. He was a member of the MVP Track & Field Club. MVP stands for Maximising Velocity and Power.

Early Years in Running

Carter started showing his talent in high school. In 2002, he placed second in the 100 m race at the ISSA Championships. He also finished fourth in the 200 m race.

In 2004, he won a gold medal with the Jamaican 4 × 100 m relay team at the CARIFTA Games. He also helped the relay team win at the CAC Junior Championships.

Becoming a Top Sprinter

In 2007, Carter won his first major international race. This was the Grande Premio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo in Brazil. At the World Championships in Osaka that year, he helped the Jamaican 4 × 100 m relay team win a silver medal. They also set a new national record.

In 2008, Carter ran the 100 m in under 10 seconds for the first time. This was a big achievement! He was only the fifth Jamaican to do so.

Olympic Relay Success and Challenges

At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Carter ran the first part of the 4 × 100 m relay. The team, which included Usain Bolt, set a new world record and won the gold medal. However, in 2017, a test result from 2008 caused a change in the medal standings for the relay team. This meant Carter and his teammates lost their gold medals from that event.

Carter continued to achieve great things. In 2010, he ran his personal best time of 9.78 seconds in the 100 m. This made him one of the fastest sprinters in the world.

World Championship Wins

In 2011, Carter was part of the Jamaican 4 × 100 m relay team that won gold at the World Championships. They set another new world record, finishing in an amazing 37.04 seconds.

In 2012, at the 2012 London Olympics, Carter and the Jamaican 4 × 100 m relay team set another world record. They finished in 36.84 seconds. They were the first relay team to ever run under 37 seconds!

In 2013, Carter won a bronze medal in the 100 m at the Moscow World Championships. He then helped the Jamaican relay team win another gold medal. This was Jamaica's fifth straight major championship relay gold.

In 2015, Carter won his fourth World Championship gold medal with the Jamaican 4 × 100 m relay team. This showed how strong the Jamaican team was.
