A Look Back: New Berlin's History

New Berlin became an official village in 1816. Many people think its name comes from the city of Berlin in Germany because some of the first settlers were German. However, the name actually comes from earlier settlements called Berlin, New York or Berlin, Connecticut, where some of the first residents had lived.

Two important historical places in New Berlin are recognized nationally. The Horace O. Moss House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Later, the entire New Berlin Historic District was listed in 1982, recognizing a whole area for its historical importance.
