How Sidney Got Its Name
The town of Sidney was officially created in 1801. It was formed from a part of another town called Franklin. On April 7, 1801, the town was given the name "Sidney." This name was chosen to honor a brave British naval officer named Sir Sidney Smith.

Where is Sidney Located?
Sidney is located at the very northwestern edge of Delaware County. Its northern border is the Susquehanna River, which also separates it from Otsego County. To the west, Sidney borders Chenango County.
Getting Around Sidney
The main part of the town is the village of Sidney. This village is found at the western end of the town, right along the Susquehanna River. If you're traveling by car, Interstate 88 runs through the northern side of the town. You can get on or off the highway at Exits 9, 10, and 11.
