Visit the Sports Museum!
The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame has a cool museum. You can find it at 503 Queen Street in Fredericton. This museum is inside a historic building. It's called the John Thurston Clark Memorial Building.
This building used to be a customs office and post office. It opened way back in 1881! The building was later named after the son of a former leader of New Brunswick. His name was William George Clark. The Sports Hall of Fame moved into this building in 1976.
Inside the museum, you'll find fun, interactive exhibits. They also have one of the biggest collections of charcoal portraits in New Brunswick. Each portrait shows someone who has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Who are the Hall of Famers?
By 2019, more than 250 people and teams had been welcomed into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. These special members are put into two main groups. They are called builders or players. The "players" group includes individual athletes and whole teams.
To be chosen as an athlete, you must have brought great honor to New Brunswick. For "builders," they must have helped sports grow and develop in the province. To be inducted, people must first be nominated. If someone who has passed away is nominated, their family must agree. Nominations are usually due by November 30th each year.
