The Museum: A Look Inside
The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame has its museum at 503 Queen Street in Fredericton. This building is called the John Thurston Clark Memorial Building. Inside, you'll find fun, interactive exhibits. There's also a huge collection of charcoal portraits. Each portrait shows someone who has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
History of the Building
The building itself has a long history. It first opened in 1881 as a customs office and post office. Later, it was named after the son of William George Clark. He was a very important person in New Brunswick. The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame moved into this historic building in 1976.
Who Are the Hall of Famers?
By 2019, more than 250 people and teams had been inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. Inductees are put into two main groups. These groups are "builders" or "players." The "players" group includes individual athletes and whole sports teams.
How Do People Get Inducted?
To be chosen as an athlete, you must have brought great honor to New Brunswick. For "builders," they must have helped sports grow and develop in the province.
First, someone needs to nominate a person or team. If the person nominated has passed away, their family must agree. The deadline to nominate someone each year is November 30.
