Nicholstown-Newtown is a small area in Southampton, England. It's often called just Nicholstown or Newtown. This area is located northeast of Southampton's city centre.
To the north of Nicholstown-Newtown is Bevois Valley. Northam is to the east, and St Mary's is to the west and south. The Mount Pleasant area is in the north of Newtown. It also extends into the northern part of Northam.
Signs that say "Welcome to Nicholstown-Newtown" mark the area. These signs are on roads that run east from St. Mary's Road. This means St. Mary's Road forms the western border. Six Dials road is the southern border, and railway lines are the eastern border.
This area is mostly made up of homes. It also has a typical street with small shops and services. A very important building in the middle of the area is the Royal South Hampshire Hospital. This hospital was built a long time ago, between 1843 and 1844.

How Nicholstown-Newtown Began
The Church of St Luke was built in Newtown in 1853. This was possible because Thomas Chamberlayne gave land and money for it.
Important People in Nicholstown-Newtown's History
In 1918, the people of this area made history. They elected Lucia Foster Welch as Southampton's first female Councilor. A Councilor is a person who helps make decisions for the local government.
Royal Visits and Community Changes
At one point, over 2,000 people marched from Derby Road to the civic centre. This march was to show how much the community cared about their area. After this event, the Queen visited Nicholstown-Newtown. Her visit led to a large amount of money, half a million pounds, being given to the area. This money was meant to help improve things.

Supporting Young People: The Youth Centre
Newtown Youth Centre, also known as Boyzy or NYC, is on Graham Road. This centre offers many different activities and helps young people learn new skills. In Spring 2014, there were plans to close the centre. However, it reopened in Autumn 2014 for younger generations. It is now run by the YMCA, which is an organization that helps young people.
