Nicollet is a small city in Nicollet County, Minnesota, in the United States. About 1,143 people lived there in 2020. It's part of the larger Mankato area.
You can reach Nicollet using important roads like U.S. Route 14 and Minnesota State Highways 99 and 111. Close by, the Swan Lake Wildlife Management Area is a special place. It's one of the best spots in the Midwest for waterfowl (like ducks and geese) to raise their young.

Nicollet's Early Days
The city of Nicollet got its name from Joseph Nicollet. He was a French explorer who traveled through this area a long time ago.
In 1858, a post office and the town of Nicollet were started by William A. Mills. Later, in 1874, James H. Stewart and Walter L. Brackenridge planned out the town. They designed it to be a "railroad town," meaning it grew up around a railroad line. Nicollet officially became a city in 1881.
