Nontron (Occitan: Nontronh) is a commune and a sub-prefecture of the Dordogne department in Aquitaine, southwestern France. It is the capital of the northernmost arrondissement of the Dordogne department.

The Nontronite is a mineral (a silicate mineral) rich in iron named after Nontron.

Geography

Nontron has an area of 24.67 km2 (9.53 sq mi) and its average altitude is 230 m (750 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 200 m (660 ft).
