History of Nontron
The Dordogne département was created a long time ago, on 17 February 1800. The arrondissement of Nontron was one of the first parts of this new département.
Geography of Nontron
The arrondissement of Nontron is in the northern part of the Dordogne département. It is also the smallest of the Dordogne's arrondissements. Its total area is about 1,621 square kilometers (626 square miles).
About 40,508 people live here. This means there are about 25 people living in each square kilometer. This is called the population density.
The Nontron arrondissement has neighbors all around it. To the north and northeast, it borders the Haute-Vienne département. To the east, it touches the Corrèze département. To the south, it is next to the Périgueux arrondissement. And to the west, it borders the Charente département.
Several rivers flow through this area. These rivers are smaller streams that eventually join the bigger Dordogne river. Some of these rivers include the Isle, Dronne, Lizonne, and Loue.
