Where is North Brother Located?
North Brother is found in Baxter State Park. This park is a large wilderness area in Maine. The mountain is in Piscataquis County. It is a popular spot for hikers and nature lovers.
How is North Brother Connected to Other Mountains?
North Brother is part of a pair of mountains. To its northeast is Fort Mountain. To its southwest is South Brother. Together, North Brother and South Brother are known as "The Brothers." They are like siblings in the mountain range.
Water Flow Around North Brother

How Does Water Drain from the Mountain?
The south and east sides of North Brother drain into a wet, swampy area. This area is called "The Klondike." From there, the water flows into Wassataquoik Stream. This stream then joins the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Finally, the water reaches Penobscot Bay and the ocean.
The north and west sides of North Brother have a different path for their water. Water from these sides flows into Little Nesowadnehunk Stream. This stream then joins Nesowadnehunk Stream. From there, the water goes into the West Branch of the Penobscot River.
North Brother and the Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is a very famous long-distance hiking path. It stretches for about 2,170 miles (3,500 kilometers).
Where Does the Appalachian Trail End?
The Appalachian Trail starts in Georgia. It ends in Maine, on the summit of Mount Katahdin. Mount Katahdin is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) southeast of "The Brothers." So, North Brother is quite close to the northern end of this amazing trail.
