This town sits within the larger area of Tamborine Mountain. Before 2008, North Tamborine was part of the Beaudesert Shire. This shire was located in the "hinterland" behind the Gold Coast. The hinterland refers to the inland area away from the coast.

North Tamborine has a rich history, starting from when the first settlers arrived. Over the years, it grew from a farming area into a popular spot for visitors.

Early Days and First Settlers

The very first land in Tamborine North was sold in 1875. John O' Callaghan was the first person to settle here. Early settlers worked hard to make a living from the land.

Farming and Local Industries

• Sugar Farming: In 1885, people started growing sugar cane. However, a big flood soon after stopped this industry.
• Other Crops: Many early settlers grew maize, which is another name for corn. They also raised dairy cattle for milk.
• First Guesthouse: As more people came, the first guesthouse on the mountain opened in 1889. This showed that the area was starting to become a place for visitors.

Connecting the Town

• Railroad Link: In 1915, a railway line connected the town. This made it easier for people and goods to travel. However, the train line closed in 1936.
• Tourist Road: A special road for tourists was finished in 1924. This road helped bring many visitors to the area.
• Village Centre: With more tourists, North Tamborine village became a busy center. It was a hub for social events and businesses. The North Tamborine Post Office opened around 1922.

Changes to the Area's Name

North Tamborine used to be its own separate suburb. But in 1997, it joined with two other suburbs. These were Eagle Heights and Mount Tamborine. Together, they formed the larger area known today as Tamborine Mountain. This larger area is called a "locality."
