Norwegian Bay (which is Baie Norvégienne in French) is a large body of water in the Arctic Ocean. It is located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. This bay is surrounded by several important islands.
To the northwest, you'll find Amund Ringnes Island. It's separated from Cornwall Island by a narrow passage called the Hendriksen Strait. Axel Heiberg Island is located to the north. Both Amund Ringnes Island and Axel Heiberg Island are part of a group known as the Sverdrup Islands. To the east of Norwegian Bay is Ellesmere Island, and to the south lies Devon Island.
Islands of Norwegian Bay
Norwegian Bay is home to six islands. These islands vary in size, from the largest to the smallest:
- Cornwall Island: This is the biggest island in the bay. It is also the most western island.
- Graham Island
- Buckingham Island
- Table Island
- Exmouth Island
- Ekins Island
These islands are mostly uninhabited, meaning no people live there permanently. The bay itself is a vast and remote part of the Canadian Arctic.
