History of Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach became an official village in 1921. It was an important place on Fire Island because it had the island's first elementary school, which opened in 1918. Many famous people, like Fanny Brice, Carl Reiner, and Mel Brooks, used to enjoy visiting Ocean Beach.
The American actor Brett King was born in Ocean Beach in 1920.

Once you are on Fire Island, you can easily reach Ocean Beach by walking or riding a bicycle. There are paths inland and you can also walk along the beach from other nearby communities.
