About Omari Akhmedov

Omari Akhmedov was born in Kizlyar, a town in Dagestan, Russia. He grew up in a Lak family. Like many kids in Dagestan, Omari started training in freestyle wrestling when he was young. These included combat sambo, Russian hand-to-hand combat, and Russian pankration.

Starting His Career

Omari Akhmedov had his first professional MMA fight on January 30, 2010. He won this fight by using a move called a rear-naked choke. After this first win, Omari built an impressive record of 12 wins and only 1 loss. This strong start helped him get noticed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in September 2013.

Fighting in the UFC

Omari signed a contract to fight four times in the UFC. His first UFC fight was on November 9, 2013, against Thiago Perpétuo. It was an exciting fight where both fighters landed big punches.
