Orangeburg is a small community in Rockland County, New York, United States. It is part of the town of Orangetown. Orangeburg is located north of Tappan and south of Blauvelt. It is also east of Pearl River and west of Piermont. In 2020, about 4,565 people lived there.

Orangeburg's Past: A Look Back
Orangeburg has an interesting history, especially during World War II. It was home to Camp Shanks, which was called "Last Stop USA." This was the biggest Army camp where soldiers got ready to go to Europe. About 1.3 million US service members passed through this huge camp. It covered most of the town.
Orangeburg also has one of the world's largest hospitals for mental health, called Rockland Psychiatric Center. It used to be known as Rockland State Hospital. Long ago, a special type of pipe called "Orangeburg pipe" was made here. These pipes were used for sewers and outdoor drainage before plastic pipes became common.
After World War II, Orangeburg was mostly a quiet, rural area. Many people lived simply in old soldier housing. But in the late 1950s, new homes were built. Young couples from New York City moved here, looking for a different way of life. Today, Orangeburg is a busy suburb of New York City.
