The Pacific Media Expo (PMX) is a super fun annual event! It's a two-day convention held in Pasadena, California, usually in November. PMX celebrates all kinds of Asian-Pacific media and popular culture. It's a big gathering for fans of anime, manga, K-pop, J-pop, and much more! This exciting expo was created in 2003 by Mike Tatsugawa, who also started Anime Expo.
What Happens at Pacific Media Expo?
PMX is packed with awesome activities for everyone! You can explore amazing art shows and check out the artists' market. There are fun anime music video contests and special rooms to watch your favorite anime. You might even get autographs from famous guests!
Get ready for exciting concerts and live performances. The exhibit hall is a great place to find cool merchandise. You can also enjoy fashion shows, join gaming tournaments, and watch the "Iron Cosplay" competition. The masquerade is a highlight where people show off their incredible costumes. There are also interesting discussions, swap meets, and workshops where you can learn new skills.
A Look Back at Pacific Media Expo
PMX was started by people who worked on other big conventions, including some from Anime Expo. They spent several years planning and researching to make PMX a great event.
In 2004, there were a few challenges. Some musical guests, like Miyavi and Silver Ash, couldn't make it. The concerts were on a different day than the main convention, and you needed separate tickets for each. The organizers thought 10,000 people would come, but about 3,000 attended. Even so, the concerts were very popular! The convention also happened on a busy weekend with graduations and other events. Because of this, the 2005 convention moved to Labor Day weekend.
Later, in 2017, PMX didn't happen because of scheduling conflicts with football games. The 2020 Pacific Media Expo was also cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
