Patrick George Considine (born 5 September 1973), often called Paddy Considine, is an English actor, director, screenwriter, and musician. He is well-known for playing strong characters in independent films. He has won many awards, including two British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs). He also received a Silver Lion for Best Short Film at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.
Paddy Considine first appeared on screen in A Room for Romeo Brass (1999). He then starred in Last Resort (2000). Some of his other notable films include In America (2003) and Dead Man's Shoes (2004). For Dead Man's Shoes, he won the 2005 Empire Award for Best British Actor.
He also writes and directs films. His short film Dog Altogether (2007) won a BAFTA Award for Best Short Film. He later made it into a full movie called Tyrannosaur (2011). This film won a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut. He also directed and starred in Journeyman.
On stage, Considine was nominated for Olivier Awards and Tony Awards for his acting. These nominations were for his performances in The Ferryman in 2018 and 2019. On television, he has played lead roles in shows like Informer (2018). He also appeared in Peaky Blinders (2016) and The Outsider (2020). Most recently, he played King Viserys I Targaryen in House of the Dragon (2022–2024).

Early Life and Education
Paddy Considine was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. He still lives there today. He grew up with his brother and four sisters in Winshill, a village near Burton. His father, Martin Joseph Considine, was Irish.
Paddy went to Abbot Beyne Senior School and Burton College. In 1990, he studied Performing Arts at Burton College. This is where he first met filmmaker Shane Meadows. In 1994, Considine moved to study photography at the University of Brighton. He graduated with a first-class degree.
Acting Career Highlights
After college, Shane Meadows cast Considine in several short films. He also appeared in Meadows' second movie, A Room for Romeo Brass (1999). This was Considine's first time acting on screen. He played a character named Morell.
His performance led to Paweł Pawlikowski casting him in his first main role. This was in Last Resort (2000). Considine played Alfie, a character who was in love. He won the Best Actor award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival for this role.
In the early 2000s, Considine became more well-known. He had roles in popular films like 24 Hour Party People and In America.
Key Roles and Awards
In 2004, Considine starred as Richard in Meadows' film Dead Man's Shoes. He also helped write this movie. For his work, he won the Best British Actor Award at the 2005 Empire Awards. That same year, he was in My Summer of Love, another film by Paweł Pawlikowski. Both films earned him several awards and nominations.
In 2007, Considine took on roles in two big movies. He played newspaper reporter Simon Ross in The Bourne Ultimatum. He also had his first funny role as DS Andy Wainwright in Hot Fuzz. In 2009, he worked with Shane Meadows again on Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee. This film was made quickly and without a script.
In 2011, Considine starred in Submarine. He also played Porter Nash in Blitz. In the same year, he played Jack Whicher in The Suspicions of Mr Whicher TV films.

Stage and Television Work
In 2017, Considine made his first professional stage appearance in The Ferryman. This play was shown in London and later moved to Broadway in New York. For his role as Quinn Carney, he was nominated for Best Actor at the Olivier Awards and the Tony Awards.
In 2020, he played Mr. Martin in the HBO miniseries The Third Day. In August 2022, Considine began playing King Viserys Targaryen in House of the Dragon. This show is a prequel to the Game of Thrones series.
Filmmaking Career
Paddy Considine is also a talented filmmaker. He writes and directs his own movies.
Dog Altogether and Tyrannosaur
In 2007, Considine wrote and directed his first short film, Dog Altogether. It starred Peter Mullan and was partly based on Considine's father. Dog Altogether won the 2007 BAFTA award for Best Short Film. It also won a Silver Lion for Best Short Film at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.
He later turned this short film into his first full-length movie, Tyrannosaur. It continued the story of the characters from Dog Altogether. Many critics praised the film. By December 2011, Tyrannosaur had won 21 awards from 28 nominations around the world. Considine also won a World Cinema Directing Award for Tyrannosaur at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
Journeyman
Considine's next film as a writer and director was Journeyman (2017). He also starred in this movie alongside Jodie Whittaker. The film had a big impact on the boxing community. Former UFC champion Michael Bisping said Journeyman was a key reason he decided to retire from fighting.
Musical Career
Paddy Considine has also been involved in music. He was part of a band called She Talks To Angels with Shane Meadows. Considine played the drums.
Later, he formed a new band called Pedestrians. His current rock band is called Riding the Low. They released an EP called They Will Rob You of Your Gifts in 2009. Their first album, What Happened to the Get To Know Ya?, came out in 2013.
In 2014, Riding the Low got a big break. Tim Burgess from the Charlatans invited them to play at his event. This led to the band supporting The Charlatans at a concert. In 2016, Riding the Low released their second album, Are Here to Help the Neighbourhood. Considine wrote the lyrics for the songs.
Personal Life
Paddy Considine likes to keep his personal life private. In 2002, he married Shelley Insley. They have been together since he was 18 years old. They have three children. Considine and his family still live in his hometown of Burton upon Trent.
Health
In April 2011, when he was in his 30s, Considine shared that he had been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.
