Early Life and Beginnings
Shane Meadows was born on 26 December 1972 in Uttoxeter, a town in Staffordshire, England. When he was 20, he moved to Nottingham.
He studied Performing Arts at Burton College. There, he met Paddy Considine, who would become a close friend and often work with him on films. They even formed a band called She Talks to Angels, with Shane as the singer.
Shane Meadows' Unique Film Style
Most of Shane Meadows' films are set in the English Midlands, where he grew up. His movies often feel very real, showing everyday life. He was inspired by director Martin Scorsese's film Mean Streets. Meadows realized he could make films about his own life and the people he knew.
Many of his films include parts of his own experiences growing up in Uttoxeter.
- Twenty Four Seven was inspired by his time in a boxing club and a local football team.
- A Room for Romeo Brass came from his youth too. After his best friend had an accident, Shane spent time with different groups of people in his town.
- Dead Man's Shoes shows some of the tougher parts of his youth in Uttoxeter.
In 2007, five of Meadows' films were shown at the Flourish Festival in Uttoxeter. This celebrated the release of This is England, a film set in 1983.

Shane Meadows' films have won many awards.
- His second feature film, Twenty Four Seven, won the Douglas Hickox award at the British Independent Film Awards. It also won Best Screenplay at the Thessaloniki Film Festival.

- His seventh film, This is England, won Best British Independent Film at the British Independent Film Awards 2006. It also won a BAFTA for Best British Film.

- This is England 88 (set in 1988) aired in 2011.
- The final series, This Is England '90 (set in 1990), was broadcast in 2015. It was highly praised by critics. People loved how real the characters felt.
