How Paden City Got Its Name
Paden City is named after Obediah Paden, who lived from 1755 to 1822. He was born in Pennsylvania and owned a lot of land in this area. Because of him, nearby Paden Island and Paden Fork also share his name. The whole region was once known as Paden's Bottom.
The Paden City Pottery Company
The Paden City Pottery Company was started in 1911 by John Lessel, who came from Europe. He chose Paden City because the area had large amounts of clay, which is perfect for making pottery.
At one time, the company employed over 400 people. They made beautiful pottery and high-quality sets of dishes. The company closed in 1950, but you can still find their products for sale today on many websites that sell vintage dishware.
