Alexandria Township is a community in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. In 2020, about 4,809 people lived here.
The township was officially created on March 5, 1765. It became one of New Jersey's first 104 townships on February 21, 1798. Over time, some parts of Alexandria Township were used to form other towns. These include Frenchtown, Holland Township, and Milford.
Alexandria Township was named after James Alexander. He was a surveyor and a lawyer. He bought a large amount of land in the area in 1744.

Alexandria Township covers about 27.75 square miles (71.87 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

Alexandria Township shares borders with several other towns in Hunterdon County. These include Bethlehem Township, Franklin Township, Frenchtown, Holland Township, Kingwood Township, Milford, and Union Township.
The township also borders two townships in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. These are Bridgeton Township and Tinicum Township. The Delaware River forms the border with Pennsylvania.

Students in Alexandria Township attend schools in two different districts.
Alexandria Township School District
This district serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. There is one school in the district. In the 2023–24 school year, about 428 students were enrolled. There was about one teacher for every nine students.
Delaware Valley Regional High School District
After eighth grade, students go to Delaware Valley Regional High School. This high school also serves students from Frenchtown, Holland Township, Kingwood Township, and Milford. In the 2023–24 school year, about 692 students attended the high school.
Supporting Education
The Alexandria Township Education Foundation helps the local schools. This group raises money to support extra programs. They aim to make the schools even better for students.
Vocational School Options
Older students in Hunterdon County can also apply to the Hunterdon County Vocational School District. This district offers special programs for careers and technical skills. Students can learn trades and other job-ready skills.
Transportation
Alexandria Township has a small airport called Alexandria Field Airport. It is a private airport used for general aviation.

The township has many miles of roads. Most of these roads are maintained by the local government. Some larger roads are maintained by Hunterdon County.
