Panther Peak is a cool mountain found in Essex County, New York. It's a part of the Santanoni Mountains, which are themselves part of the bigger Adirondacks. Panther Peak is a neighbor to Couchsachraga Peak on its west side and Santanoni Peak to its south. It's also one of the famous Adirondack High Peaks.

Discover Panther Peak
Panther Peak stands tall at 4,442 feet (about 1,354 meters) high. It's known as the 18th highest peak in the Adirondack High Peaks list. Climbing these peaks is a popular challenge for hikers! The first recorded climb was in 1904 by Daniel Lynch.
Where is Panther Peak?
This mountain is located in a town called Newcomb. It's in Essex County, which is in the state of New York. Panther Peak is part of a group of mountains called the Santanoni Mountains. These mountains are a big part of the beautiful Adirondacks.
Water's Journey from Panther Peak
Water from Panther Peak flows in many directions, starting big rivers.
- Water from the northeast side of the mountain flows into Duck Hole pond. This pond is where the Cold River begins.
- The Cold River then flows into the Raquette River.
- Eventually, this water reaches the Saint Lawrence River in Canada. From there, it goes into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
- Water from the northwest side of Panther Peak also drains into the Cold River.
- On the southwest side, water flows into Calahan Brook, which also joins the Cold River.
- Water from the southeast slopes of Panther Peak flows into Santanoni Brook. This brook then goes into Henderson Lake.
- Henderson Lake is a very important place because it's the start of the famous Hudson River! The Hudson River then flows all the way to New York Bay.
A Special Wilderness Area
Panther Peak is located inside the High Peaks Wilderness Area. This is a special protected area within New York's Adirondack Park. A wilderness area means the land is kept as natural as possible. It's a place where nature can thrive without much human interference. It's perfect for hiking and enjoying the outdoors!
