Paraná Clube: A Look at Its History
On December 19, 1989, Paraná Clube was formed. It happened when two older clubs merged. These were EC Pinheiros and Colorado EC. EC Pinheiros had won the state championship three times. Colorado EC had won it once.
The club's very first game was on February 4, 1990. Coritiba won that match 1–0.
Early Wins and National Success
Just two years after it was founded, Paraná won its first state championship in 1991. This was the Campeonato Paranaense. The team then went on a winning streak. They won five state championships in a row from 1993 to 1997.
In 1992, Paraná Clube won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. This win allowed them to play in Brazil's top league, Série A, the next year. In 2000, Paraná won another national title. They beat AD São Caetano to win the Yellow Module of the João Havelange Cup. This cup was a special competition that replaced the regular Brazilian Championship for one year.
Partnerships and More State Titles
In 2003, Paraná Clube started working with L.A. Sports. This company helped the club with its youth training and signing new players. By 2005, Paraná Clube created its own investment fund. This meant they no longer needed the partnership with L.A. Sports.
On April 9, 2006, Paraná Clube won the Paraná State League for the seventh time. They beat ADAP 3–0 in one game and tied 1–1 in another. Over 25,000 fans watched the final match.
Playing in the Copa Libertadores
In 2007, Paraná played in the Copa Libertadores de América for the first time. This is a very important South American club competition. In the first round, they beat Cobreloa from Chile. They won one game 2–0 and tied the other 1–1.
Paraná then played in the group stage. They finished second in their group. However, they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Libertad from Paraguay.
After ten years in the second division, Paraná Clube returned to Brazil's top football league. This happened in 2017 when they beat CRB 1-0.
Stadiums: Where Paraná Plays
Paraná Clube's main stadium is the Estádio Durival Britto e Silva. It is also known as Vila Capanema. This stadium was updated in 2006. More than 60 special viewing boxes were added. New bathrooms and snack bars were also built. The stadium can now hold 20,083 fans. The first game in the "new" Vila Capanema was on September 20, 2006. Paraná beat Fortaleza 2–0 in a Brazilian Championship match.
The club sometimes used to play at the Pinheirão stadium. Another stadium, Estádio Erton Coelho de Queiroz (Vila Olímpica), also belongs to Paraná Clube. However, it is only used for training.
